The Model 570 Transceiver offers 128 high speed (56Kbps) independent virtual network communication channels. You can assign a transceiver serial port to any virtual channel, which allows you to group Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) with common protocols, segregate different applications, allocate network bandwidth, and share backup master stations. The FiberLoop III system supports multiple RTUs, Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and microprocessor-based relays.
The Model 570 Transceiver has been optimized for use with Schweitzer Engineering Labs Mirrored Bits Protocol. In H&L's redundant loop configuration, the system can self-heal from loop to radial mode so quickly (4 msec) that relays such as the SEL-351 cannot detect the fiber break.
